Why Video Communication is Better Than Email for Your Staff

Effective internal communication is essential for keeping teams aligned, informed, and motivated. Nothing beats having an actual conversation with your boss, but we know this isn’t always practical.

Traditionally, email has been the go-to method for communicating important information to staff. However, video has emerged as a more effective and engaging way to share messages with employees and stakeholders when you can’t all be in the same room.

Video adds a human touch that text simply can’t achieve. Emails are often transactional, lacking the warmth and personal connection that face-to-face communication can offer. When leaders communicate via video, their tone, facial expressions, and body language all contribute to making the message more relatable and engaging. Employees can see and hear their leaders, fostering a stronger connection and trust within the team. Video also allows leaders to show vulnerability and emotion, something that’s often lost in text. When employees can see their leaders being real and transparent, it builds trust and strengthens the company culture.

This connection is especially true for remote workers. It bridges the gap, making staff feel more included and aligned with the rest of the team.

Video engages multiple senses—sight, sound, and sometimes text or visuals—making it easier for the brain to process and remember the information. Emails, especially long or complex ones, can be easily skimmed or misunderstood. How many emails do you think your staff get every day? Hundreds? Important messages can get lost on email, but video, by its very nature, is more engaging and stands out in comparison.

While emails will always have their place in business communication (I’m not suggesting every email should be a video!) video offers a more dynamic, engaging, and personal way to connect with your staff. They don’t need to be perfect either. They need to be ‘you’.

So, the next time you have an important message to share with your team, consider hitting “record” instead of “send.”

Why train with ThinkBox?

At ThinkBox Media we believe in Strategic Customised Training. This means your training will be developed specifically for you; your industry, your concerns, your real scenarios.
A mining executive is not likely to face the exact same issues as a doctor, a government minister or a not-for-profit organisation. One Size fits all trainings do not work.

Some people need a lot of time to improve their performance, others get stuck on the messaging. Many bigger companies already have some bases covered by their own comms teams freeing up more time to focus on the practical skills.

Often a one-on-one training in required, other times small or larger groups may provide a more cost effective option for a team.
We know you’re results driven and so are we!
